About This Site

Top Embroidery Machine covers the supplies a machine embroiderer actually rebuys: polyester embroidery thread, cut-away and tear-away stabilizer, prewound bobbins, titanium and universal embroidery needles, magnetic and standard hoops, snips, adhesives and the small maintenance items that keep a machine running. Everything here is written from real jobs stitched in a home shop, not from a spec sheet. When something fails, we say how it failed and what we changed.

Shop Safety

An embroidery machine is a powered needle running at speed, and it does not know your finger is under the presser foot. Keep your hands outside the hoop while the machine is stitching, never reach in to clear a thread break without stopping the machine first, and unplug it before you oil it, change a hook timing part or dig lint out of the bobbin case.

Needles snap. A broken embroidery needle can throw a fragment at eye height, and the tip that stays in the fabric is sharp enough to cut a hand that runs over a finished piece. Wear eye protection during long runs on heavy goods like canvas, denim and caps, change needles on a schedule instead of waiting for a break, and account for every piece of a broken needle before the garment goes back to the customer.

Magnetic hoops carry strong rare earth magnets. Keep them well away from pacemakers, defibrillators, insulin pumps, hearing aids and any other implanted or worn medical device, and check with the device maker before using one if you have any doubt. They will also erase credit cards and hotel keys, damage mechanical watches, and pinch skin hard enough to bruise when the halves snap together. Separate them by sliding them apart, never by pulling them straight off.

Temporary spray adhesive should be used in a ventilated room, away from the machine motor and any open flame, and never sprayed directly on the machine or into a hoop that is already mounted. Read the can. Some are flammable as an aerosol.

Lint is fuel. Clear the bobbin area and under the needle plate regularly rather than letting it pack in around the motor, and keep snips, seam rippers, stitch erasers and loose needles out of reach of children and pets. Nothing on this site is professional safety advice, and it does not replace the manual that came with your machine.
